Dear Honorable Barack Obama:
The following are some of the laws/issues that presently affect my and I/we would like them to be addressed and/or considered for “CHANGE”:
1.____ The Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act (AEDPA), “one year statute of limitations” that was signed by our President, Bill Clinton, compelling prisoners [English & Latinos] once their Direct Appeal is denied, to become attorneys within a year’s time (when it takes an educated person around 8-10 years to become a lawyer and where a lot of prisoners don’t even have a High School Diploma/GED), is totally oppressive, unfair, and prejudicial, etc,; 2. ____ The Apprendi, Blakely, and Booker issues that are unfairly not being made “RETROACTIVE”: 3. ____ The Mandatory Minimum Sentences;
4. ____ The Crack-Cocaine disparities;
5. ____ The conspiracy law(s)—Pinkerton Doctrine’s co-conspirators liabilities;
6. ____ The immigration issue(s); and
7. ____ The Federal Government needs to stop prosecuting petty drug offenses and go back to their original principles and/or intentions, “ONLY” handling major drug King-Pin, RICO, and white collar cases of high profi le, etc. United States Senate Attn. Honorable Barack Obama United States Senator 713 Hart Senate Offi ce Bldg. Washington, DC 20510 (202)224-2854
-TEAR ABOVE AND MAIL TO SENATOR OBAMA Now, for this coming November 2008 Presidential Election, there are various ways that you can help your incarcerated family members, loved ones, friends, and associates, etc. come home, if you weren’t able to do so in the past and they are as follows: A. “MEMORANDUM”
TO: HONORABLE PRESIDENT-ELECT, BARACK OBAMA FR: JAIME A. DAVIDSON,SR. (FOUNDER OF PRISONERS FOR CHANGE & PRISIONEROS PARA CAMBIO)
DA: NOVEMBER 12, 2008
RE: PRISONERS HISTORIC CONTRIBUTION TO PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CC: ALL MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE AND MEDIA COMMUNITY
Greetings, First and foremost, congratulations surrounding your historic win becoming the first African-American U.S. President*; Please, send our regards to your wife, Michelle Obama, daughters, and new team.
President-Elect, Obama, as founder of the Reggaeton Culture, after we heard your call to all Americans—it was extremely imperative for us to stand up, be counted, and answer your call for action.
Our request to support your presidential campaign was faced with strong opposition by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), executive staff. God still blessed us with the wisdom to organize prisoners and launch a successful presidential grassroots campaign from behind this prison wall. Unbeknownst to you and your inner circle, the prison system was already organizing and campaigning on your behalf.
We were on the verge (after acquiring the funds), of launching our historic, fi rst time ever get out to vote grassroots organizing presidential campaign from USPMcCreary in Pine Knot, Kentucky called,
“PRISONERS FOR CHANGE AND PRISIONEROS PARA CAMBIO MAGAZINE,”
but observing Senator John McCain’s negative campaign joined by former Mayor Rudy Juliani alleging that you were
“SOFT ON CRIME,” we backed off in goodfaith. We didn’t want to cause your campaign any harm or give Senator McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin anymore issues to attack you on.
We chose to be disciplined and responsible by campaigning behind the scenes, having all our street support...
to get out and vote for you on our behalf. Prisoners for Change (P4C), inspired by your message of “CHANGE,” is not only a magazine/TShirts, it’s also a
“GLOBAL MOVEMENT”
We wanted you to see/know fi rst hand that prisoners nationwide are also willing and ready to support you and follow your leadership. Prisoners acknowledge the fact that they were part of the problem, but they are now seeking to be part of the solution. Prisoners are only awaiting for you to address them directly.
We have a lot of work ahead of us to do and prisoners want to contribute towards the fi nancial... rebuilding of America.
And, P4C Magazine was created to give you and the public a direct insight into the minds of prisoners, that they want “CHANGE” too.
Middle class families are awaiting for you to keep your promise to assist them fi nancially.
We would like to recommend that you re-visit the BOP’s annual budget.
Millions and even billions of dollars are being wasted by the FBOP with deceitful tactics every year by the Education Departments to match their paper trail. All over the U.S. in the FBOP, tutors are the ones thatactually run the entire school, while the teachers collect free money doing nothing! Funds are also issued to the FBOP to cover fi ctitious Advance Continuing Education (ACE) Courses.
Plus, inmate workers/tutors are being paid bonuses with tax payers dollars to be informants and bodyguard the female staff in their departments. Cutting back on billions of dollars from tax payers hard work that are being wasted by the FBOP, will help you meet some of your other critical promises.
In closing, Honorable President-Elect, Obama, the aforementioned is only a synopsis as to areas where you can “CUT BACK” on wasted funds that can assist you to carry out your promises to 95% of middle class families in America.
For additional information, I’ve enclosed a published article— from
“PRISONERS FOR CHANGE & PRISIONEROS PARA CAMBIO”
written by one of our members, Mr. Chad Wilson, two (2) Letters of Recommendations to authenticate
my status and expertise in this fi eld, and a Spanish/ English P4C Form we utilized to organize and
mobilize prisoners at this federal institution and others nationwide.
Thanks in advance for your time, assistance, and earnest consideration in this most pressing suggestion to help you bring about change.
Your most rapid reply (including “ALL SENATORS” reading this memo), will be grately appreciated.
And, please expect a copy of P4C Magazine to put a face on “INJUSTICE,” as opposed to view prisoners only as statistics.
******************************************
Ask candidates to address prisons,
One of the biggest significant issues affecting voters and taxpayers today derives from a failed “War on Drugs.”
Why is it that nobody wants to talk about it?
But voters should not continue to ignore the fact that tax dollars are being used to maintain a
“breeding camp for criminals”!
We cannot vote, but o.ur family members and friends can on our behalf.
The U.S. economy today is in a serious crisis, and the budget must be readjusted to cut off a lot of wasteful spending.
The federal prison system is housing around 190,000 prisoners, and the government is using
approximately $7.4 billion a year of your hard-earned tax dollarsto do so.Voters who are unemployed need to ask both presidential candidates,
“Why don’t they remove the prison factories from all the prisons nationwide and make new jobs for citizens in America?”The marketable skills/real incentives to promote prisoner rehabilitation goals.
Did you know that U.S. Penitentiary-McCreary is so overcrowded, that ‘a lot of inmates are “unemployed”?,
While the Commonwealth of Kentucky is releasing its inmates, the federal government is stacking theirs up. I am not saying to release all prisoners, just comb through the system and give the non-violent/ first time offenders a second chance.
I concur with Mr. Roy Pullam’s letter of Sept; 20 where he stated, “It is so comforting to know that instead of them
sitting in a cell watching television they are out doing good things for our community.”
All prisoners are not bad!
So, prior to Nov 4, ask both candidates (Senators Obama and J McCain) to lay out a plan to redirect $2-3 billion
of tax dollars back into voters’ wallets and based on their responses, vote wisely.
